We are officially IN LOVE with Sydney! It is huge, filled with tons of funky little neighborhoods and beautiful harbors. The city is so clean and there are cute cafes around every corner.
Yesterday our flight was delayed by three hours so we spent the morning reading and relaxing in the airport. Unfortunately it is rainy and cold here so no relaxing beach time- but we are happy to wander the city in the rain. We spent the evening strolling the streets, no map no plans, and found ourselves a cute little vietnamese restaurant for some warm Pho. We walked nearly the whole city and loved every little part. The bridge looked amazing with the fog and all the city lights (tough to capture on camera). The harbors here are incredible- filled with hip restaurants, modern lofts, and huge yachts.
Today we walked the giant park and botanical gardens in the middle of the city. We had amazing omlettes and cappucinos to fuel the hours on foot. Then we went and took the tour of the Opera house. It was unbelievable! Quite the story behind the building and we got to see both the Symphony room and the Opera room. We were also fortunate enough to see live rehearsals in both!! So cool to get to hear the acoustics without having to pay for the show! Did you know that 2 out of 3 people around the entire globe can recognize and name the Opera House?!
We then went shopping and I got comfier walking shoes for the coming days (yes, I gave into the Toms fad but only because I refuse to wear running shoes with jeans!). Sydney has some impressive shopping malls but at TWICE the price of america... yikes. Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world (However their minimum wage is $19/hour!! yes, that is the same as American dollars.).
Tomorrow we are going to hit some of the street markets since it will be the weekend!
