the bus

We bought our van! Yesterday we went to a car market and found the perfect van. Two German boys have been backpacking with it for three months. It is definitely ghetto fabulous with its plywood bed and blue race stripes. It came with everything we need from camp chairs to a stove and pots. We did a little sketchy deal of a down payment in exchange for their passport to ensure that they would not sell it to anyone else. This morning we went and did all the paperwork, shook hands, and took the keys! For a total of $2,800 we bought our new home on wheels! We also got insurance, roadside assistance, and other emergency safeties. Our first stop was the grocery store where we loaded up on canned goods and beef jerkey… yum.

We are leaving for a small peninsula on the East Coast of the South Island, Akaroa. We are going to do a 4 day trek in just two days. It is called the Banks Peninsula trek and should include penguin sightings! Wish us luck as we are going to be trying the waters of real backpacking. Afterwards we are headed to Dunedin for a night. Until then!

Any ideas of names for our new bus??
